Silvano Geranio, sales director at Prestige, is
credited for his work with the Kelletts after
spending time listening to what they wanted
and translating this carefully into the design
specification. This has led to a lodge which
even stunned outside workmen who came to
connect the services. They commented on how
well built it was David said. “We knew it would
be though - we chose Prestige because they
refurbished homes before they started building
them. They know where all the common faults
are in park homes and avoid them.” he added.
The home not only has to please David and
Sue, but also Jed the Jack Russell, who often
goes for walks around the Durham countryside
and Lake District (where they have a holiday
home) with his owners and enjoys the
attention when family and friends visit.
The Kelletts’ passion for walking was one
aspect considered in the design too. In most
park homes they’d seen the front doors led
straight to the lounge and they knew this
would mean their floors would get muddy
quickly. So instead a vestibule was created
which then leads on to the lounge.
In the lounge they chose a gas fireplace which
creates heat around three times more than an
electric fire. For the colour scheme soft tones
were chosen which help give it that cottage
feel, and also compliment and balance the
darker wood of their furniture which they
brought with them. An inheritance in the
shape of a Victorian dining suite led to Sue and
David working alongside Prestige to create a
dining room that would accommodate it
comfortably- a feat that astounds guests as
they wonder how they managed to fit it in.
After deciding to stay with the plans for an
original state-of-the-art park home kitchen, a
skylight and two large windows were added as
the couple love cooking and entertaining and
these extras, along with oak doors, help create
a more relaxing and homely feel. As David’s
brother and Sue’s mother have disabilities,
Prestige also fitted wider doorways and
installed larger doors.
The master bedroom comes complete with its own en-suite and along with the second
bedroom, an extensive range of walk-in
wardrobes.
The final room is used as a study, housing a
desk, three drawers and a filing cabinet with
ease. The room is large enough to house a
double bed, so they can convert it later if they
want to.
All in all this is a really great lodge – it feels
like a cottage and the décor is beautiful
throughout. To finish the home off nicely the
plot has been landscaped and has different
decking areas to make the most of the views
depending on the time of day and position of
the sun, looking across the river or down to
the historic priory.
Having talked to the Kelletts it’s clear they
really love their home. Sue sums up how she
feels about it: “As I come home I can feel all
the stresses of life just drop away – it’s
wonderful. This really is our dream home.”
"We loved...
The feel of this lodge: because of
the build quality it really feels and
sounds like a cottage, and the
décor is really quite traditional.
The feeling of space: the lodge is
light and bright as it has plenty of
windows but still feels really cosy
because of the design – cleverly
done!
The views: the fact that it’s been
designed around the views adds to
the value of this property.
For
views this lodge would be really
difficult to beat – they’re simply
stunning."
